The moment finally arrived – ground-breaking for the restoration of the Charles Sumner Post #25, Grand Army of the Republic.
With permits and approvals in hand, we celebrate the digging of the trench to hook up utilities between the building and Chestertown’s systems. Archeologists Liz Seidel and John Seidel oversee the dig, finding a few artifacts which will go into the collection gleaned from the larger project when the foundation was rebuilt in 2005. Unexpected obstacles at the sidewalk level require a deeper than planned trench. But the Doug Nicholson crew deal with the work in an admirable way.
