Call for Artists

CALL FOR ARTISTS!  

Partnership with Kent County Public Schools 

Supported by The Hedgelawn Foundation 

The Kent Cultural Alliance, in partnership with the Kent County Public Schools Fine Arts  Teachers, and the Hedgelawn Foundation, are seeking proposals for three (4) thirty-minute  video workshops for our MUSIC teachers, elementary, middle, and high school, to use for the  Spring 2021 semester. These workshops will be done via Video to maintain the health and  safety of Students, Teachers, and Artists and will be used regardless of the format of the KCPS  fall semester. 

PROPOSALS DUE April 15, 2021 

Musicians who are full time Residents of Kent County may submit a proposal for one, or all of  the three grade levels. Artists will be paid an honorarium of $800 for their work, and the Kent  Cultural Alliance will provide a professional videographer for the recording of the session.  Session should be no longer than 30 minutes, and ideally they would be in three 10 minute  sections. The five Kent County Public School music teachers will be the jury for selection. The  Kent Cultural Alliance will facilitate and advise, but will not have a vote in the selection. 

  • ELEMENTARY SCHOOL – Winning Proposals will cover 
    • Lessons related to World or Cultural Music – for Elementary School Social Studies 
    • Lessons related to Native American musical traditions from regional indigenous groups  such as the Nanticoke, Lenape, Piscataway 
    • Lessons related to Music for Movement – Rhythm – Dance 
    • Lessons related to Coded Music of the Underground Railroad
  • MIDDLE SCHOOL 
    • Lessons related to Practice Strategies (especially while in isolation, and later for when  music is made together again.) 
    • Lessons related to Electronic Music, using new technologies to make music Lessons related to the creative process for composition  
    • Lessons related to working as a musician in Community 
    • Lessons related to World or Cultural Music – for Middle School Social Studies  
  • HIGH SCHOOL 
    • Lessons related to the combination of Music and Art, using one to reflect the other Lessons related to Music as a business, making a life of music making  
    • Lessons related to the Copyright of composition and/or recording 
    • Lessons related to working as a musician in Community 
    • Lessons related to Practice Strategies (especially while in isolation, and later for when  music is made together again.) 

Proposals are Due April, 15 2021 by 5 p..m. They should be in narrative form and include a video clip attachment or link of two examples of the artist’s work. Decisions will be made by April  22. Artist will have until May 30 to create their video workshop.
